These 5 Day Weeks are Killing Me...

Luckily, next week we get Tuesday off for Veteran's Day, then a full week starting on the 17th, then a 2-day week beginning on the 24th, due to Thanksgiving. Then a long Christmas break in December, whew! How's that for whiny?

There are times during the year that teachers tend to get "burned out. November and March seem to be two of the "biggies," and I know I ain't the only only one dragging at my school.

I can't remember the last time I listened to the radio in my vehicle, as I constantly have a book on CD going. Right now, I'm listening to Duma Key, by Stephen King. I've always enjoyed his books, and the writing here is really quite good -- in addition to being a good storyteller, he is turning into a better (imo) writer as the years go by. His book before this (which I read, not listened to!), Lisey's Story, demonstrated the same. Unfortunately, at 130,000 miles plus, things in a vehicle start to fall apart. The CD player is beginning to act up, and I'm worried that when the really cold weather gets here, it'll die. That would suck...

On the gaming front, Bill Peeck is stopping by tonight to playtest Washington's War, Mark Herman's remake of We the People. Game is similar to its predecessor, but there are no battle cards and opponent's events are no longer completely useless. looking forward to giving the new version a spin. I'm also starting a pbem Successors soon, as I can't seem to get enough of that game right now!

I'll leave y'all with a game you might want to try:

Busen Memo

You really should check the link out, LOL!

Ahh!, poor Baby. All those days off and no way Idea how to spend it?. Suck it up Winslow.

I would kill for that many days off ( plus the summer vacation, ? WtF ). Do you have any Idea how lucky you are?

I'm in Warren, Ohio at the Vocal Group hall of fame.
I was picked up at the Airport. In the Van were two guys from the Loving Spoonful and Peter Tork of the Monkeys ( He's my neighbor in the room next to me ). We had a dinner last night and I met a lot of my childhood hero’s growing up in Buffalo (Flamingo’s "only have eyes for you", Jay and Americans, etc.) and got to see old friends from the past (Tony Butela from the "Lettermen”)

Tonight we perform closing the show. We are donating our time for this cause so that the Entertainers of the past ( Doo whoop Groups of the 50's and 60's ) get their Due and are recognized for what they contributed to this form of music called Rock & Roll. I feel honored to be here.

I'm pretty happy with WBER, they do alternative music most days, so I can keep in touch with the young folk, and Wednesday morning is the oldies show, where they play alternative music from the 80's and 90's.

They even play Cake occasionally.

Music today "Sucks"!!. Even my grandkids think so.
My granddaughter is 15 and she loves Mo-town stuff from the 70's.

I think Dave Mathews is great,

Man, kids get WAAAY more vacation time than when I was young . Then again, I started school after Labor Day and got out in early June . These days they start in late August and if they use too many snow days, spend all of June in school . I think I like the old way better….

What the heck is week of Nov 17 - hunting season ?

Here's to hoping your car is running when I fly into Barfalo for Niagaracon.

Radio here in Halifax mostly sucks. We have Q104, which plays the same 200 or so classic rock songs over and over again. Then there's HAL-FM, which was new and refreshing when they came on the market a couple years back, but after a couple days I realized they just chose a different 200 classic rock songs to play.

There's Bounce, which plays dance stuff, C100 which plays boy bands, Madonna, Celine Dion and other sappy shit.

I copy all my old LPs to CD and listen to them, or listen to classical on CBC2.

As for Busen Memo, we couldn't find a copy to play here, so we've recruited 50 or so women who let us play live.

F**kin' Jay and the Americans......

When I was in high school and the first year of college, my girlfriend(s) at the time were all into JatA and they nagged me no end to get tickets whenever they were due in the area. So, being totally whipped, I got tickets.

They never f**king showed up. Not once. Ever. nada. 0 for 4 !!! And I didn't get laid, either.

So Jay, all I can say is "Eat me. Has-been boy"

Cory,

There's good music still being made. I really like Colbie Caillat (and not being just a dirty old man), she's got a great voice. Her dad coproduced a few Fleetwood Mac albums, it shows.

Death Cab For Cutie is very melodic, Battles is good when you're in a complex sort of mood, and you can't beat Flogging Molly or the DropKick Murphy's if you like Irish themed punk (sort of like the Pogues).

And let's not forget your hometown gal, Ani Defranco.

You could go broke just trying to hear all the groups that just came out just this year. I would say that 90 % of it is crap but the cream does rise to the top ( as it always has ). What I have a problem with is many of these artist can't even sing at all andl It's fixed in the studio ( flat and sharp notes, off key, etc. ) That is offensive to me. It's also the business itself and the Gangsters ( lawyers and accountants ) that run it.
Mariah Carry (? ) got dropped by her label because she only sold 3 million albums on her last release. They made her go the whole Sex slut route to sell records instead or on her own Merit as a singer.

You guys have time to listen to music?

WTF?!?!

;-)

Slacker Radio has worked out really well. Type in a band and you get a bunch of their music and from other bands "like" them.

Pretty cool...

I kind of plan my weeks based on what days I have off.

This week, I have Tuesday off (Veteran's Day). Then I go for a full week on the week of the 17th, then a 2-day week the next (Thanksgiving).

Then I have to wait for Christmas...

I was hoping this weekend would be at least in the high 40's or 50's but it looks like rain. If that does not produce those results, maybe we can squeeze in that Steelhead trip. Then again, I think Millennium is that weekend.

let me know.

Cory,

I'm committed to Millennium on Saturday and some home stuff on Sunday, unfortunately.

What does the rest of your November look like? Will you be home over Thanksgiving?

Anonymous said...

Nah!, Leaving for Portland, OR on the 20th of Nov. and then going to LA for a week. We are going to spend Thanksgiving with my daughter and grandkids there and my other daughter is driving in from Ariz. In between all this I have to put on a lead vocal on a song we recorded last month and mix them down. Plus I have to put the boat away for the winter. It's always on Thanksgiving but this year it wil be earlier because I wont be here. I guess I'll see you at Millennium. Maybe once we can get in a game together.
