School Daze...

Just got back from a morning Social Studies meeting as we need to "fit" the curriculum into the new text. It actually went pretty well, now we meet with the book rep on July 18th for all the electronic and online goodies. Tomorrow, I meet with the Math teachers to go over next year's curriculum -- full day. But after these next two, I'm done for the summer, and I'll have filled my contractual "summer collaboration days."

This Sunday's my birthday, but since Deanna has her kids around in July, we won't be celebrating until August. Which is fine by me, I'm in no hurry to get older...

Decided that, as of today, I am definitely getting on the diet and exercise horse full throttle -- having a start date like July 1st is good for me. So last night I went out to Marge's Lakeside Inn with Mike to watch the sunset. We ended up staying way too long (considering it was a school night for me and a work night for Mike), sipping drinks and playing video trivia. Marge's is a great place to watch the sunset and talk about old times, both of which we did. A nice end to June, no doubt about it!

Now, I need to join the Lake Ontario Parrothead Club and life will be good, very good...

I'll take the opportunity now to wish you a happy birthday Rob. On Sunday I'll be driving between Nackawic, NB, and Quebec City, on my way to my own little paradise. So enjoy the day, and enjoy it again in August!

I've gotta get back into a better diet/exercise routine too. I've got a bit too much flab around the middle. You know you're overweight when your knees hit your stomach when you're cycling :) The guys in le Tour don't seem to have that problem.

I seem to remember reading where a lot of those guys consume 7000+ calories per day.

*boggled*

Thanks, Pete, enjoy the cabin!

As for 7,000 calories, I've probably done that before with a Nick Tahou's Garbage Plate. Guess I should have then taken a 100 mile ride in the Alps...

Google is a wonderful thing...

You'll get use to it after awhile.

What out for Champy.

Champy can devour 7,000 calories in one bite...

Enjoy your birthday, my friend, you're one of the good guys. Even with the kids around, here's hoping you get a little birthday gift from your better half. Bad deal for Deanna, of course, but maybe she can take the advice given to Queen Victoria - "Close your eyes and think of England." TN

Mr. W said...

Tim, that must be you!

Of course it's a bad deal for Deanna, just as it is whenever Kathy has to "Think of England." LOL!

Hope all's well, did you see I linked to your museum here? :-)

Hey Rob, Bob here, happy b-day. Say, what's with this "fitting the curriculum to the text" business? We gotta do everything the opposite way (meaning fit what we use to the curriculum, so that there's effectively no textbook for either chem or physics, as nothing published fits NYS curriculum).

Anonymous said...

It's me, buddy. Thanks for the plug for the museum. Anyone who mentions your blog gets in free (of course, we're already free but that's beside the point!). TN

Fitting curriculum to the text is a bit of a misnomer, Bob. The text was chosen to replace the old because it models New York State 6th Grade Social Studies curriculum well. But in our curriculum maps, we need to "tweak" a few things, as timing will be different (Example -- there's a little more "meat" here for both India and China, so they went from 2 week units each to 2.5 week units each. This also let use "compact" some things we had been doing but really need to be covered in 5th Grade, such as most mapping skills).

So, if I go to the Littleton Historical Museum and mention Zyzzyva, I get in free?

Too cool!

(Even if facts make this promotion meaningless!)

What the devil is the Littleton Historical Museum?

Click on the link (right side of page, "Friend's Pages") to find out!

My friend Tim runs it.

Oh, the stories we have from our time in the DC metro area...

Great stories, although the details change considerably if our wives are in on the conversation! "The names have been changed to protect the innocent(?)" TN

All I know, Tim, is that Kathy has a nasty stare down if we enter your house drunk, at 4:30 AM, after going to strip joints all night!

Yeah, that's the first one that came to my mind too. Of course, you got off easy, you were able to flee. If I remember correctly, that little escapade cost me flowers to her office the next day! BTW, if Kathy should happen to read this entry, I have no idea what you're talking about. The ballgame just ran really, really late that night. TN

I think that our old buddy Gil shares some responsibility for that night, as well...
